The different Caribbean wedding laws can be intimidating for couples planning a destination wedding. Let Caribbean planning help!
In order to get married in Puerto Rico, you need a Puerto Rico marriage license and a wedding solemnized by a Puerto Rican Minister, Priest or Judge. The Health Department in Puerto Rico is the agency in charge of issuing marriage certificates.
The laws in Puerto Rico require marriage applicants to 4 steps:
Obtain the marriage application form
VDRL blood test by a federally certified laboratory (the test cannot be older than 14 days on the day of your wedding)
A doctor in Puerto Rico must evaluate the blood test result to ensure that it says “non reactive”, and if so, the Doctor shall sign the marriage application in approval.
Lastly, visit the Demographic Registry (license Bureau) to have all the documents authenticated (to obtain the marriage license) and to purchase two license stamps (total stamp cost is US $30).
Wedding applicants shall bring to the island the following documentation:
Valid photo identification or passports- passports preferred
Proof of divorce or death certificate (if applicable)
